Abstract
This study examines the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on multidimensional poverty reduction across provinces in Vietnam. Using panel data for 63 provinces during the period of 2016–2023 and using the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) estimation method, the empirical results indicate that ICT has a positive influence on multidimensional poverty reduction. Furthermore, trade openness, GDP per capita, and local industrial development have significantly effects on the multidimensional poverty rate. Based on these findings, the study suggests that local governments prioritize digital infrastructure development, enhance public awareness regarding the effective use of the internet and electronic services, and train high-quality human resources in the ICT sector. Additionally, fostering economic development—particularly boosting trade openness in the current era of integration—should be aligned flexibly with local industrial development to minimize any negative impacts on multidimensional poverty reduction efforts.
