Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of institutional quality, foreign direct investment, trade openness, renewable energy, and natural resources on sustainable development in Vietnam during the period 1996-2023 using the ARDL model. The research results show that institutional quality has a positive impact on sustainable development, measured by adjusted net savings in both the short and long term. Furthermore, the research results also show that FDI, trade openness, renewable energy and natural resources all have negative impacts in the short term but translate into positive impacts in the long term on sustainable development. Based on the empirical results, the study suggests several policy implications to promote sustainable development in Vietnam in the coming years.
