Abstract

This study evaluates the current situation of Vietnamese laborers in Japan, and analyzes the factors that affect the intention to extend their working time in Japan after the Japanese government reforms the residence policy for foreigner in early year 2024. Through a survey on 124 Vietnamese laborers in Okayama city, Japan, the results showed that factors consisting of age, Japanese language proficiency, income, type of household, level of satisfaction with job and life, and support from the Japanese government have a significant influence on the intention to extend working time in Japan. Of which, income and satisfaction with work and life are the strongest affecting and decisive factors. Managers, stakeholders of the labor export program to Japan market need to focus on these affecting factors, especially decisive factors to attract Vietnamese laborers to renew their working contract in Japan.
